The Used Car Buying Guide

Take the guesswork out of buying used cars

Thinking about buying a used car? It’s a smart option in today’s market. While our new car inventory is certainly worth bragging about, the team here at Cherokee County Toyota understands that many customers are taking refuge in our used car inventory instead. Not only are you given assurance of the vehicle’s quality — after all, every inspection is performed right here at our service center — but most are attracted to our used car prices. We’ve crafted together a Used Car Buying Guide for those who want a vehicle upgrade without the hefty price tag. Ready to land a great deal on your next purchase? Keep reading to learn more.

Calculate the Value

After researching a handful of potential models that will meet your lifestyle’s needs, you’ll want to get an understanding of the current market. The price of models changes by the month, so keep up to date with reliable sources such as Kelley Blue Book® and Edmunds. By using these third-party tools, you can learn the average value of the car you’re interested in. Luckily for you, we also provide a handy trade-in estimator, so if you’re considering selling your current ride, you can calculate how much you’ll get for your trade-in vehicle as well.

Determine the Vehicle’s History

Whether you’re buying from us or not, you’ll want to request a CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™ for a comprehensive look at the vehicle’s maintenance history, number of owners / title changes and mileage discrepancies (if any). When you shop at Cherokee County Toyota, you won’t have to request a CARFAX® — it’s available on every used car listing online. To access the CARFAX®, simply click the icon under the model and you’ll be taken to another tab.

Look Under the Hood

Go ahead, take a peek. After researching online and reading the CARFAX®, you are more than welcome to look under the hood of your preferred model for additional peace of mind. We can ask one of our technicians to come over and walk you through what they inspected for that car specifically, but generally, our technicians will search for abnormal noises or vibrations, unsavory smells (burning, fermenting) and undesirable sights (leaky batteries, oil dripping under the car). Our professionals don’t want to sell you a car that won’t last — we take pride in the quality of our used vehicles.

Take a Long Test Drive

Here’s the fun part. Test-driving the car, truck, SUV, minivan or hybrid is the sure way to know if the model is right for you. Are you sold on the vehicle’s smooth transmission? Its miles per gallon? What about the seat upholstery? All are valid factors in your decision, so take as long as you like during your test drive to finalize your decision. A member of our team will be available if you’d like to ask any questions along the way!
